Military Police Officer. In 1983, Gil entered into duty with the United States Border Patrol and was assigned to BrownField Station in San Diego, California. In 1987, Gil was assigned to the United States Border Patrol Academy as an instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia. After this assignment in 1988, Gil was promoted to a Special Agent with the Criminal Investigations Branch in Las Vegas, Nevada. Gil conducted numerous cases, including Alien Smuggling, Narcotic Investigations, Employer Sanctions and other criminal investigations. In October 2000, Gil was promoted to a Senior Special Agent (OCDETF) responsible for conducting major drug investigations in Southern Nevada. During this time, Gil was assigned to major drug task forces with the FBI, Las Vegas Metropolitan PD, North Las Vegas PD and other law enforcement agencies. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, Gil was assigned to work with the Las Vegas Joint Terrorist Task Force (JTTF), where he assisted in identifying and investigating the reason for the terrorists visit to Las Vegas prior to the attacks. In 2006, “Operation Community Shield,” a joint operation with local law enforcement across the country, was created to pursue and apprehend criminal undocumented alien gang members. During this time, Gil was assigned to the Las Vegas Metro Gang Unit, where he worked closely with detectives in apprehending and federally prosecuting numerous felony undocumented alien gang members. Gil retired from the U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement in January 2007.

In 2011, Gil joined the Las Vegas Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge #1, where he is currently serving in the position of Trustee. Gil is also a member of the executive board for the Nevada State Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) where he serves as their State Treasurer.
